Child Rights Information Centre, Moldova

Children being left behind when their parents migrate in search of work to sustain their families, are the focus of the Child Rights Information Centre in Moldova (CRIC). Some of these children grow up in in institutions. For them, with particular emphasis on those who are soon to leave, CRIC has designed a 'life skills' programme in order to provide them with tools for a life on their own.

CRIC is also an active member of the Moldovan Coalition for the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Involving children in this work engages local authorities, teachers and other specialists working with children.

Encouraging children to get to know their own rights, and to follow up on the implementation of the CRC plays a vital part in this work. This is done by training the children on the Convention and the national legislation, as well as assisting them in becoming acquainted with their own situation, both in the community and in the country as a whole. Save the Children Sweden Europe Programme supports the development of a system for monitoring and evaluation for the children to use, and adapted to the children’s needs and interests.
